Selecting colors that go together can be a real challenge. But with our Rainbow Color Selector, it's like having a professional colorist in your pocket. When I bought the cute little lips keychain and dish, I knew that I wanted to add pompoms to it, but wasn't sure what color scheme to go with. So, I grabbed my Rainbow Color Selector and checked out the many ways to pick yarn colors for my pompoms.
The rotating wheel in the center can be turned to select 5 different combinations:
- Complementary
- Triad
- Split Complement
- Rectangular Tetrad
- Square Tetrad
On the back of the Rainbow Color Selector, all of the color combinations are listed with an explanation of each one, and how to find it on the wheel.
For my pompoms I decided to choose a Complementary color combo.
There is a star* or an arrow indicator on each combination as the starting point. You simply pick a combination, then rotate the indicator on the wheel to the color that matches the item you are matching, such as the lips keychain and yarn for my pompom. Then follow the diagram to match the harmonizing color(s). Placing the yarn in the windows helps make the perfect match.
I placed the window over the pink yarn that matches the lips, then rotated the wheel so that the arrow for the Complementary combination lined up with it.
Then I saw that the Complementary color was green, because the arrow lined up with that window. By placing my green yarns inside the window that lined up with the guide, I made a perfect Complementary color match!
Now I was ready to use the yarn that created the perfect Complementary color combination to make my pompoms to attach to my keychain. Easy, right?
Then I simply wound the lighter pink and green yarns around the Pattiewack Pompom Maker, tied the yarn in the center, cut it off the pompom maker, and trimmed it up to make a perfectly round 4" pompom.
And then I tied both of the pompoms onto the keyring to complete my little quick and easy project.
I love how it turned out!
