Pick-A-Pom Faux Fur Topper!

Pick a pompom to snap onto your beanie, that you can make yourself! Customizable and full of winter cheer, these mix-and-match pairings are fun to make when you use the Pattiewack Pompom Maker.

Here's what you'll need:

The Large Pattiewack Pompom Maker

Beanie

Yarn

Large Sew-on Snaps

Needle & Thread

For these huge, luscious pompoms, I wound the yarn 100 times around the widest part of the Pattiewack Pompom Maker. That makes a 6-inch fluffy pompom.

Next, Tie the center of the pompom as tight as possible.  It helps to tie a knot with 2 loops to hold it in place for a super tight center.

It also helps to slide the yarn down to the next tier to loosed the yarn a bit, and get a really tight knot.

Now, cut the loops of the pompom on both sides.  The sharper the scissors, the better!

After you cut all the loops, pull the strings of the knotted yarn, and the pompom will pop right off the tool.

Grab the strings and pull the pompom into one tight bunch in the palm of your hand, and trim the yarn into a perfectly shaped dome, for a perfectly round pompom.

To create a faux fur pompom, brush the yarn with a fine brush, and you will have a fluffy, furry ball.

Attach the snap by threading the strings through the holes in the snap.  Tightly tie the ends together to make it fit snug against the center of the pompom.

Sew the second part of the snap to the top of the beanie.

Your pompom is ready to snap into place.

There you have you first snap-on Faux Fur Topper made with the Pattiewack Pompom Maker.  Now, let's make another one, so that you have color options!

For this Faux Fur Topper, I used gray and black yarn for a variegated effect.  So, I wound both colors onto the Pattiewack Pompom Maker.  Since I wound a single strand of yarn for the white pompom 100 times, I wound the double strands of gray and black yarn 50 times.

Next, Tie the center of the pompom as tight as possible.  It helps to tie a knot with 2 loops to hold it in place for a super tight center.

Cut the loops on both sides.

Then the pompom will pop right off the tool.

Thread the strings into a snap and tie it tightly to the center of the pompom.

Now you have TWO Pick-A-Pom Faux Fur Toppers to snap onto your beanie.

I have to admit that this is totally an Anthro hack!  And I loved their idea so much, I just had to make it for myself.

There's are way more expensive, of course.  But they did some fun colors and you might like to play around with more colorful yarn like theirs. I wear tons of black, so that's why I went with black, gray and white.
